Dylan’s Delights: Dylan’s Twisted Dippin’ Stix

Twisted Dippin’ Stix (with applesauce glaze or applesauce icing)

Dylan-is-in-the-kitchen!

Dylan here from S. C. Ashby’s book Along the River Road which is now out in both paperback and digital formats!

The book Along the River Road tells the story of how Cassie, Sofia and I solved the mystery surrounding a fatal car accident that Cassie’s mother was involved in.

In chapter 10 of the book, it was mentioned that while the three of us were reviewing the evidence we had collected, we were munchin’ on a recipe I followed, but had put my own Dylan-esque-twist to it: Dylan’s Twisted Dippin’ Stix!

So, y’all, I have to ‘fess-up that I got part of this recipe idea from a very special, slightly rotund doughboy 😲 from his website: www.pillsbury.com/recipes

I love how easy this is to make because you use the pre-made rolls out of the canister. They re-heat later in the microwave nicely, too.

I just know you’re gonna look at this recipe and ‘claim—TOO MANY STEPS!!!

Patience, li’l chef. It is worth the effort.

Ingredients for Stix

1 can Pillsbury™ Grands!™ Flaky Supreme refrigerated cinnamon rolls

2 tablespoons melted butter

2 teaspoons cinnamon

1 tablespoon granulated (white) sugar

Directions for making the twisted stix

  1. Open cannister and set the icing cup aside.
  2. Heat oven to 375°F.
  3. In a separate small bowl mix together the sugar and cinnamon. Set this aside for now.
  4. Separate dough into 8 rolls.
  5. Unroll each roll one at a time and cut the long strip into equal sized smaller strips. Cut each dough strip into 3 equal pieces.
  6. Twist each small strip two to three times (this depends upon how twisted you are!).
  7. Place twisted stix on an ungreased cookie sheet.

  8. Melt the butter in the microwave (cover it with a paper towel, so it won’t splatter all over inside the microwave and make your mom unhappy.) and use a cooking brush (Not your li’l sister’s watercolor brushes!) to lightly brush each stick with butter.
  9. Follow this quickly with sprinkling each stick lightly with cinnamon and sugar mix from that small bowl.
  10. Bake approximately 14 minutes or until golden brown.

  11. While your twisted stix are baking, make your applesauce glaze or applesauce icing (c-b-lo).
  12. Serve warm. Once they are out of the oven and cooled enough to eat without burning your tongue, dip away into the applesauce glaze or icing.
