I am excited to share my news with you that my new book is now available on Amazon under the Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) brand: Along the River Road. It is a coming-of-age story interwoven with a mystery. It tells the story of a high school girl who has a passion for coding: Cassie. Cassie finds at the age of 16 her family imploding and her world abruptly changed. After her Aunt moves her from San Diego, California, to the Aunt’s home in Doddville, Arkansas, Cassie not only needs to find new friends and her programming niche, but also needs to connect with her deceased mother’s family in the town of Doddville. While finding her way in her new Arkansas life, she uncovers a town secret involving her mother: a secret that has shamed and ostracized her family since Cassie’s mother left town after high school graduation. With the help of her new friends and the support of her Aunt Jackie, Cassie digs deeper into the mystery as she works through her grief over the sudden loss of her mother. With so many abrupt changes to her life and the town’s uneasiness over her attempts to uncover the facts surrounding a town tragedy involving her mother, Cassie may not survive the truths she discovers.

The main character of Cassie is a different type of protagonist. She is a prodigious coder who has been recognized as a leader and excellent programmer in the high school cyber-security competitions. Friends are few and hard to keep, so she finds solace and safety in the code she crafts. She wrestles with an incomplete relationship with her mother (Katie Lynn): a talented individual herself who never fulfilled her musical potential and ambition as she became lost in depression all stemming from a fatal accident that took place days before she graduated from the small town high school in Arkansas. See an excerpt from one of Katie Lynn’s songs below. Cassie sees her own world clearly through programming code, through algorithms, and she attempts to make sense of her mother and people and relationships through these mathematical expressions.

I hope you enjoy the story. There is a sequel due out in December, 2018, that follows Cassie and her friends through their senior year in high school as Cassie helps a fellow student programmer, and continues to re-acquaint herself with her mother’s identity while learning more about her father.
